Going Home

Going HomeThe length of the hospital stay following heart surgery varies. Children generally recover faster in the less stressful home environment. Therefore, the cardiac team recommends that children be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible. Physicians and support staff are available 24 hours a day to answer any questions or concerns parents may have about their child's recovery. In addition, the staff can assist in coordinating visiting nurse care in the home.

Telephone conferences with the physicians and the clinical nurse specialist are scheduled the morning following surgery for the parents of youngsters who have undergone same-day cardiac surgery.
