of the Department
The GME office administers the
educational programs for medical students, residents and
fellows as well as providing accreditation for CME activities
and administrative support for the Internal Review Board
Saint Barnabas Medical Center
is an affiliate of New Jersey Medical School, UMDNJ, Newark, NJ, Saint George’s
University and NY College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Medical students from Saint George’s
University, New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ, and
New York College of Osteopathic Medicine serve third and
fourth year clerkships at Saint Barnabas Medical Center
in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Obstetrics and
Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Pathology. Clerkships and electives
are also available for fourth year students.
Saint Barnabas Medical Center sponsors
ten residency programs with 151 residency positions in
the following specialties: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics
and Gynecology, Pathology, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery
, Radiology, Podiatry and Otolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery. We also sponsor a transitional
year program. The Medical Center serves as one of the principal
teaching sites for the Pediatric residency program sponsored
by Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The Pathology program
is an integrated program with Monmouth Medical Center and
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
The Department provides CME credits
under authorization of the Medical Society of New Jersey.
Accreditation is provided for Grand Rounds programs as well
as symposia.
In addition, the Department provides
administrative support for the Institution’s Internal
Review Board and clinical research projects.
Dr. Henry Rosenberg, is the Designated
Institutional Official with responsibility for oversight
of the teaching programs. He is also the Director of Clinical
Research.
The Graduate Medical Education Committee
is responsible for oversight of all residency programs.
The committee representatives come from all the sponsored
programs and contains several resident representatives as
well.
The GME office coordinates all internal
reviews of residency programs as well external reviews
The Department also coordinates site
visits for the medical student education programs as well
as CME programs.
The Director of the Department
of Medical Education , in coordination with the program
directors of each residency program is responsible for the
quality of training programs and ensuring that residents
and students are provided appropriate learning opportunities
in preparation for medical practice. The Director and the
Program Directors are responsible for the well-being of
the trainees.
