Each year, the department handles in excess of 3,500 live births,
6,000 admissions and 12,000 outpatient visits. In addition, there
are approximately 2,000 gynecological surgical admissions. The
department has12 labor rooms, 7 triage beds, 2 pre-op pep beds
and four post-anesthesia beds with total electronic monitoring.
In addition there are three well-equipped delivery/operating rooms,
and 38 private postpartum beds.
Monmouth is a state-designated regional perinatal center with 9
bed ante-partum unit, where high-risk patients with maternal and
neonatal complications are received and treated. The center serves
as an educational and consulting resource to hospitals and obstetricians
throughout central and southern New Jersey. Residents work alongside
the sub-specialists in maternal-fetal medicine and neonatology
who staff the center. Patients are seen in an outpatient setting
comparable to a private office.
