Greetings
from The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical
Center and welcome to the website for the Department
of Pediatrics
This site will provide you with information about
our department and our residency program in Pediatrics.
We are very proud of the program which is under the
expert leadership of Renuka Verma, MD, our very talented
Program Director and Carol Geiss, our equally talented
Program Coordinator. Our goal is to train residents
to become excellent pediatricians; we base the program
on the recommended competencies: patient care, medical
knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills,
practice-based learning and improvement, professionalism
and systems-based practice.
Furthermore, we are a Brazelton Touchpoints training
center and all of our residents receive this training.
Touchpoints is a program developed by T. Berry Brazelton,
MD which stresses communication and a developmentally
appropriate approach to the child and family that
values the child and the skills of the parents and
puts the focus on them.
Our hospital and faculty are affiliated with Drexel
University College of Medicine and St. George’s
University School of Medicine. We have students rotating
throughout the year, and our residents are an integral
part of the teaching program; we believe that everyone
learns more through teaching!
As you navigate our website, you will find information
on a variety of topics relating to the Children’s’
Hospital and the Pediatric Residency. We will introduce
you to our faculty, the program schedule, our research
efforts, the rotations, and paths of our recent graduates.
About half of our graduates pursue additional training
in a variety of fellowships and about half go into
practice throughout the United States and the world.
We have a wonderfully diverse group of residents and
patients. We hope you find all the information you
want. We invite you to call the department at 732-923-7250,
email us (mfisher@sbhcs.com
or reverma@sbhcs.com)
or write a letter.
Sincerely,
Margaret C Fisher, MD
Chair, Department of Pediatrics,
Monmouth Medical Center.
Professor of Pediatrics,
Drexel University College of Medicine.
