Chair, Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dr. Joseph R. Ivan is the Interim Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and  is a graduate of Rutgers College in New Brunswick. He received a B.A. degree in Biology, with an emphasis in Microbiology. He attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1989. Dr. Ivan completed his postgraduate training at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as Chief Resident in his fourth year, and was chosen "OBGYN Resident of the Year for 92-93".

Dr. Ivan is licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey. He has active privileges at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In addition to his private practice in Martinsville, Dr. Ivan holds a full-time teaching position at Newark Beth Israel, and is the Co-Director of their Labor and Delivery. In June 2003, he was the recipient of the "Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education" given by the Council On Resident Education In Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG).

Martin L. Gimovsky, M.D., board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in maternal fetal medicine, is the Residency Program Director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, he completed his residency at The Sloane Hospital for Women, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, N.Y. He went on to complete a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Gimovsky is a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has had a life-long interest in student and resident education in obstetrics and gynecology and has authored several textbooks and many articles on operative obstetrics. Dr. Gimovsky serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is actively involved in the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) and in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Karen L. Koscica, DO, is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in maternal fetal medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, she completed her residency at Jersey Shore Medical Center in NJ. She went on to complete a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY.

She has participated in research in maternal fetal medicine, particularly in the area of preterm birth. She also has an interest in critical care in pregnancy.

Antonia F. Pinney, MD is a board certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
After graduating from MCP/Hahnemann University School of Medicine, she completed her residency at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Her interests include medical education, contraception, menstrual disturbances and pediatric gynecology.
