Residents report to the inpatient unit where
they receive informal sign out from the Night Float
team and review overnight events.
First year residents present patients admitted from
the previous 24 hours. Histories, physical exams,
assessments, differential diagnoses and management
are discussed with a variety of general and subspecialty
attendings.
Attending Rounds are held on all teaching services
with interns, supervising residents and medical students.
Faculty members from general and subspecialties present
the "core lecture" series, as well as other
teaching sessions.
Residents provide ongoing patient care during this
time, write progress notes, perform procedures, admit
patients and attend continuity clinic on a weekly
basis.
The on-call team reports and patients are endorsed
by the first year resident. Afterward, residents may
leave if no work is pending.
The Night Float team receives sign-out and assumes
inpatient care responsibilities Sunday through Thursday
nights.
