Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship
at Children's Hospital of New Jersey

Program Overview

Children’s Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey is located at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center campus and is the only comprehensive pediatric cardiac surgical service in the state with two pediatric cardiac surgeons, full-time at this institution. It also has the only pediatric ECMO and heart transplant program in the state. Overall, the size of the program facilitates a personal teaching and learning environment that is conducive to develop a well-rounded foundation in pediatric cardiology. A nurturing environment of high quality patient care delivery is coupled with an objective approach to the practice of pediatric cardiology. The faculty in the division work very closely with pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric critical care, neonatology, general pediatrics, pediatric emergency medicine, adult cardiology and cardiac transplant & heart failure.

This institution has a long history of training physicians in pediatrics, med-peds, internal medicine, adult cardiology, Ob-Gyn, and other surgical specialties. Induction to the fellowship program will start with an orientation program common to new employees of the hospital. Multiple system-based aspects of the institution will be learnt at these sessions. Fellows who do not have a valid BLS, ACLS and PALS certificates will be required to undergo appropriate training to renew certification. A tentative description of the program for core-curriculum is available in the following page.
