Saint Barnabas Medical Center is part of the
statewide Saint Barnabas Health Care System, which currently
includes eight acute-care hospitals, nine nursing homes,
40 ambulatory care facilities, three geriatric centers, one
free-standing inpatient psychiatric facility, and a statewide
behavioral health network. Founded in 1865, the Medical
Center is New Jersey’s oldest and largest nonprofit,
nonsectarian hospital, where more patients are treated annually
than at any other facility in New Jersey. Saint Barnabas
blends the essential elements of community service with advanced
medical and surgical specialties to care for patients throughout
the state.

The 641-bed institution cares for over 40,000 inpatients
and 60,000 Emergency Department patients yearly. A busy community
hospital, Saint Barnabas boasts more than 15,000 operative
cases per year that encompass “bread and butter” surgery,
tertiary referral cases, and complex surgical subspecialty
procedures. In addition, the Medical Center and Ambulatory
Care Center provide treatment and services for over 300,000
outpatients annually.
The Medical Staff is comprised of more than 1,500 physicians
in 68 medical and surgical specialties and all branches of
dentistry and there are over 4,000 employees. As a teaching
institution Saint Barnabas trains 154 residents and fellows
each year through nine approved residency programs.
Among Saint Barnabas’ widely recognized facilities
are The Burn Center, the only certified burn treatment facility
in the state; The Heart Hospital, providing comprehensive
cardiac surgery services for adults and children; the Saint
Barnabas Health Care System Renal Transplant Center, the
sixth most active center in the country; the Regional Perinatal
Center, providing care for high-risk and critically ill infants
in New Jersey’s leading 50-bed Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit; comprehensive Pediatric Services; The Institute for
Reproductive Medicine and Science of Saint Barnabas, including
the highly acclaimed assisted reproductive technology program;
the comprehensive Cancer Center; the largest Radiation Oncology
program in northern New Jersey; and the Jacqueline M. Wilentz
Comprehensive Breast Cancer.
