The Saint Barnabas Medical Center Health Sciences
Library is staffed by two librarians during weekday business
hours. At all other times, the Library is accessible by
swipe card. The Library has a strong collection of
print and electronic resources. The print collection has
about 2,500 titles and the library subscribes to several
hundred journals and numerous electronic databases, point
of care tools, electronic books, board study resources
and online CME courses. When an article is not available
in full-text in print or online in the Library, the librarians
will order it through interlibrary loan. The Library also
has a small but growing collection of consumer health books.
The size of our residency program, our suburban location, the
adjacent Kindercare Child Care Center (with resident discounts),
our new progressive maternity and family leave policies, and
the sensitivity of our Medical Center to family-related issues
make Saint Barnabas Medical Center attractive to families of
residents. We value the importance of a rich family life while
residents sustain a scholarly educational experience. .
Stipends are reviewed annually and are adjusted to remain
comparable to regional and national practices. The Medical
Center also provides residents Health Insurance, Dental Insurance,
and Major Medical Insurance (for house staff and eligible
dependents), Medical Liability Insurance, Life Insurance,
Meal Tickets (when on-call), Vacation (four weeks), ten holidays,
book allowance, and New Jersey license reimbursement. The
Department of Medicine provides residents Medical Knowledge
Self-Assessment Programs of the American College of Physicians,
and sponsors attendance of Senior Assistant Residents at
a Board Review Course.
Housing is readily available nearby. Many house staff members
elect to reside in garden apartments on campus directly across
the street from the Medical Center.
