Salary and Benefits: For House Staff

Meal Allowance: This is allotted on a monthly basis, based on the number of nights on call. Each resident is given a “credit card” to which the meal allowance, a total of $13/day on call, is credited on a monthly basis.

Vacation: A total of four weeks paid vacation (taken in one or two week blocks) per year are allowed.

Insurance: Health, hospital, dental insurance and prescription plan for the resident, spouse, and dependent children are provided by SBMC. Life insurance, in an amount equal to the annual salary paid, disability insurance, and professional liability insurance are also included in the benefits package.

Book Allowance: Each resident is provided with a book allowance on a yearly basis. The distribution is as follows. PGY-1 $250; PGY-2 $250; PGY-3 and above $300.

Lab Coats: Three white lab coats per year are issued to each resident.

Counseling and psychological support services are available.

Salaries: PGY-I: $44,959; PGY-II: $47,629; PGY-III: $50,327; PGY-IV: $53,055; PGY-V: $54,432; PGY-IV: $55,800.

Education Committee
There is an Education Committee consisting of Dr. Lyle Gesner, Dr. Joseph Viggiano, Dr. Alan Garten, Dr. John Zurlo, Barry Julius and the current Chief Resident.
