Ultrasound Services

What is an Ultrasound procedure for?

Physicians may order ultrasound as a diagnostic tool to follow up on symptoms or make an evaluation based on a family history of a particular disease or disorder.

Ultrasound scans use sound waves to provide non-invasive, high-frequency, non-radiation views of the abdominal anatomy, reproductive and other vital organs. The Center offers a complete program of high-resolution ultrasound scanning utilizing advanced techniques which represent he cutting edge of ultrasound technology.

Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasound enables physicians to evaluate organs in the upper abdomen, focusing on the liver, gall bladder, kidneys, spleen, pancreas and vessels. The patient may not eat for eight hours preceding the exam.

Gynecological Ultrasound
Gynecological ultrasound evaluates pelvic organs, focusing mainly on the uterus and ovaries. For example, the sonohysterogram examines the endometrial lining. These exams are usually performed either vaginally or through the abdomen following consumption of a recommended amount of water.

Obstetrical Ultrasound
Obstetrical ultrasound evaluates fetal growth and helps to detect fetal abnormalities during pregnancy. It is performed during the first, second or third trimester. Water consumption is required.

Small Parts Ultrasound
For women, small parts ultrasound encompasses areas such as the thyroid and neck.

Additional ultrasound services are available at The Saint Barnabas Imaging Center in Livingston.
