This free program is more of a "Ladies' Night Out," sponsored by the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Community Advocates and Women’s Council. The evening, which includes cocktails and gourmet stations, will feature an insightful presentation by M. Michele Blackwood, MD, Director of Breast Health and Disease Management. Dr. Blackwood, a nationally-recognized breast surgeon, will share her recommendations for leading a healthy life which includes drinking wine and eating chocolate. This free program, presented by The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is an opportunity for breast cancer patients and their families to hear from a multidisciplinary team of physician experts regarding current topics in the treatment of breast cancer. Saint Barnabas Medical Center invites community members to “An Evening with Meredith Vieira.” The nine-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, co-host of NBC’s Today show, wife and mother of three will share stories from her unique career which spans 30 years. She will discuss how she maintains a balance between work, family and health care concerns. This complimentary program will feature two experts: Dr. Michele Blackwood, MD, FACS, Director of Breast Health and Disease Management, and Janice Berliner, MS, CGC, board-certified genetic counselor, The Cancer Center. Dr. Blackwood will discuss breast cancer screening and follow-up for those who are low, moderate or high risk. Ms. Berliner will then discuss the basics of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer from a genetics perspective, the importance of family history, genetic testing and counseling, and risk assessment.
