General Pediatric Services

The Family Life Education Center (FLEC)  (973) 926-4300
offers a therapeutic intervention program for families who have been referred by community agencies for individual parenting skills training. FLEC also provides various support groups to address common issues for particular family members:

  • Parenting Skills Support Group (For general parenting issues)
  • Young Parents’ Group (For parents aged 17 -21)
  • Young Teens Group (For girls between 14-16)
  • Parenting Group for Spanish Speaking Parents

FLEC focuses on the prevention of further abuse and neglect by teaching skills to maintain family stability. Parents are instructed on developmentally appropriate child rearing practices and discipline techniques. Support groups help parents to feel less isolated and overwhelmed by daily problems. The FLEC program also provides structured family sessions. We fundamentally believe that in order to protect and help the child, the family must be viewed as a whole. Staff consists of trained therapists and a child life specialist. Unique aspects of the FLEC program include:

  • Individual and family counseling
  • Parent education
  • Socialization opportunities
  • Community outreach and advocacy

Referrals for FLEC can be made by contacting the Administrative Secretary at (973) 926-4300. Referrals may be faxed directly to (973) 923-6487.
