Hoop-A-Paluza Honored by Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center

Newark, NJ -- Hoop-A-Paluza, Inc., an all-volunteer charitable organization that has raised almost $1,000,000 for children’s health services in the state, was honored on October 18 at a celebration ceremony given by the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Foundation. Four board members from Hoop-A-Paluza, Inc. attended.

Last year Hoop-A-Paluza, Inc. (HAPI) raised $350,000 to establish a multi-year Child Life program in the Pediatrics Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

“With the support of the funds raised by Hoop-A-Paluza, we have been able to establish child life assistance in the pediatric emergency department seven days a week,” reports John Brennan, M.D., Acting Executive Director, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. “Child Life is a supportive presence for the children we treat and they help to make the Emergency Department a less intimidating, more comforting environment. We are profoundly grateful to the team at Hoop-A-Paluza.”

Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center will be participating again this year with at Hoop-A-Paluza as a legacy participant and will have the opportunity to raise more funds for children’s programs and services.

HAPI raises funds through an annual Hoop-A-Paluza carnival for which participants of all ages obtain pledges from donors who "sponsor" them to shoot 20 free throws, after which they enjoy rides, refreshments, and entertainment. By making fundraising a family event, HAPI seeks to transcend the amount of money raised in any given event by having a "70 year impact" on the kids who fundraise with their families. The mission is to raise funds for kids in New Jersey with severe health problems.
