Knitters Donate Handmade Gifts to Clara Maass Medical Center Patient

Belleville, NJ - The Clara Maass Medical Center Auxiliary hosted its Knitters’ Luncheon on August 5, 2009, at the Medical Center. The lunch is held annually to thank those who create beautiful handmade gifts for Clara Maass patients and newborns. Though the lunch is a more recent tradition, knitting warm and comfortable items for patients is not. Individuals, as well as groups such as AARP, senior clubs and local church groups have been knitting blankets, hats, scarves, shawls, lap robes and wheelchair bags for the Medical Center for more than 20 years.

Thirty-five “knitters” attended the annual luncheon, where each guest received an insulated bag and a skein of yarn.

“We are thankful to all volunteers who donate their time and efforts to benefit Clara Maass Medical Center patients,” said Thomas A. Biga, executive director. “Our patients truly appreciate the handmade gifts that these people put so much time and effort into making.”
