Belleville, NJ – During October—a
month marked as National Physical Therapy Month— Clara Maass
Medical Center (CMMC) and the American Physical Therapy Association
(APTA) want to spread the word about the importance of physical
therapists and what they do, to surrounding community members.
Physical therapists and the techniques they employ can help you
reduce pain, restore function and mobility, and prevent disability.
Physical therapy can be used as a possible alternative to surgery
or pain medication, and can help issues such as arthritis, back
pain, knee pain, osteoporosis, overuse injuries, shoulder pain,
stroke, sprains, strains and fractures. People of any age, from
newborns to the elderly, can be helped by physical therapists.
CMMC also offers prosthetic and orthotic services for artificial
limbs following amputation.
The Department of Rehabilitative Services at CMMC provides patients
with access to a variety of specialists and professionals, a compassionate
support staff and state-of-the-art equipment. Physical and occupational
therapy programs are available to both inpatients and outpatients
under the medical direction of a physiatrist (doctor specializing
in physical rehabilitation), who oversees their total treatment.
Van service is available for patients who need transportation.
