GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP IN MAY BY CELEBRATING
 BETTER SLEEP MONTH

Belleville, NJ— Dedicated to promoting the importance of a good night’s sleep, the Better Sleep Council (BSC) has designated May as Better Sleep Month.

Getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep a night can improve several aspects of your life including work productivity, physical performance during exercise and overall health. Millions of Americans suffer from poor sleep caused by everyday stress, bad sleeping habits or a sleep disorder, which oftentimes goes unrecognized.

Accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Center for Sleep Disorders at Clara Maass Medical Center can help identify the underlying conditions causing a possible sleep disorder and offer treatments to address it.

“Excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty falling and/or staying asleep, unusually loud snoring, kicking during sleeping, decreased concentration and depression are all symptoms of a sleep disorder,” said Nail Fatah, MD, from the Center for Sleep Disorders. “We conduct several non-invasive tests to help us determine if a sleeping disorder is causing the problem.”

According to the Better Sleep Council, some tips for getting a better night’s sleep include going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday; creating a relaxing bedtime routine; creating a quiet, dark, cool and comfortable room; evaluating your mattress and pillow to ensure proper comfort and support; keeping work materials, computers and televisions out of the bedroom; exercising regularly; avoiding nicotine; avoiding caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime; and finishing eating at least two to three hours before bedtime.
