Community Medical Center Nurses Elected to
New Jersey State Nursing Association

Toms River, N.J., August 5, 2003 – Three Community Medical Center nurses were recently elected to serve in various capacities for the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA), an organization devoted to the advancement of nurses and the nursing profession.

Linda Gural, RNC, of Bayville, has been elected Vice President of NJSNA for a two-year term. In this role, she will assume the duties of the President-Elect in the President-Elect’s absence. She will also serve as chairperson for any task force appointed by the president to advise the board on new policies regarding membership and communication; as well as chairperson of the awards committee. Gural is currently a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Community Medical Center, where she has been employed for 20 years. In this role she is responsible for the care of critically ill patients.

Judy Schmidt, MSN, RN, of Toms River, has been elected as a Director of NJSNA. Her term runs for three years. Some of her responsibilities include helping to implement the association’s strategic plan, and promoting measures for the Association’s growth and development. At Community Medical Center, Schmidt holds the position of staff nurse, in which she is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the plan of care for patients. She has been employed at Community since 1983.

Anne Vitale, MSN, RN, of Toms River, has been elected to NJSNA’s Congress on Policy and Practice. This arm of NJSNA performs a comprehensive, integrated analysis of various issues affecting the professional nursing practice including trends in health care delivery; proposed federal and state legislation and regulations that may have an impact on nursing policy, practice, education and research; and educational developments with implications for nursing. Vitale is Community Medical Center’s Director of Nursing Research, responsible for planning, promotion and implementation of nursing and interdisciplinary research. She has been employed at Community since 1997.

Nancy L. Wollen, Executive Director of Community Medical Center, said, “I am very proud of Linda, Judy and Anne and their work with the NJSNA. I, as well as all of the nursing staff at Community Medical Center greatly appreciate the time and dedication they put into fostering the professional practice of nursing by working with NJSNA.”

She added, “These nurses go above and beyond what is expected of them because of their passion and dedication to the nursing profession. Their work with NJSNA will not only benefit the nurses at Community Medical Center, but nurses working in all facilities across the state. We are very happy for their accomplishment.”
