Community Medical Center Receives Radiology Accreditation

Toms River, NJ, December 3, 2008 – Community Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and digital mammography as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted b board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

Mark D. Pilla, executive vice president of Operations for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System and executive director of Community Medical Center, said, “I am exceptionally proud of this prestigious accreditation, and am thankful to all of the radiology staff and physicians who take such pride in providing exceptional care to our patients. This recognition by the ACR illustrates to our patients that Community Medical Center is the best place to have imaging studies.”

Mary Tesoriero, administrative director of Radiology Services at the hospital, explained that every radiologist on staff has met the stringent requirements of the ACR. “These credentials exemplify our commitment to excellence,” Tesoriero said. “Every patient who walks through our doors can feel confident that the most highly trained individuals will be administering and interpreting their radiologic tests.”

Radiology uses many types of techniques to produce pictures and images of the inside of the body. These procedures help find the precise location of a problem, such as a broken bone, blocked artery or tumor, and provide a visual image for doctors to plan the most effective care and treatment possible.

Radiology procedures performed at Community Medical Center include diagnostic radiography and fluoroscopy, computerized tomography (CT), nuclear imaging, ultrasound, angiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and digital mammography.
