TOMS RIVER, NJ, FEBRUARY 2, 2009 – By
demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards
for health care quality and safety, Community Medical Center, an
affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, has earned
The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™.
The award, bestowed after a week-long on-site survey at the hospital,
recognizes Community’s dedication to complying with the Joint
Commission’s state-of-the-art standards for health care delivery.
Mark D. Pilla, executive vice president of Operations for the
Saint Barnabas Health Care System and executive director of Community
Medical Center, said he is proud of the employees, physicians and
volunteers who dedicate themselves to excellence every day. Pilla
called the accreditation "proof of an organization-wide commitment
to provide quality care on an ongoing basis."
“Achieving Joint Commission accreditation is a hospital-wide
effort,” he said. “Everyone at Community Medical Center
played an important role in achieving this distinction. Together
we are able to demonstrate the commitment of all Community staff
members to achieving excellence.”
Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, executive director of Hospital Programs,
Accreditation and Certification Services at The Joint Commission,
said, "The community should be proud that Community Medical Center
is focusing on the most challenging goal – to continuously
raise quality and safety to higher levels."
Pilla said Community sought accreditation from the Joint Commission “because
we want to demonstrate our commitment to patient safety and quality
care.” He added, “We view Joint Commission accreditation
as one of the highest accolades available in the health care industry
as well as an independent indicator of our dedication to superior
patient care."
Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality
of care provided to the public through the provision of health
care accreditation and related services that support performance
improvement in health care organizations. An independent, not-for-profit
organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest
standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
