James Souder McCaughan, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic
surgeon on staff at Community Medical Center. He earned his
doctor of Medicine degree from Wright State University School
of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in general
surgery at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition, Dr. McCaughan completed a clinical fellowship
and residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of
Alabama at Birmingham and a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic
surgery at the University of Toronto/Hospital for Sick Children.
Dr. McCaughan has held academic positions at the University
of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, and the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. He was the divisional leader of General
Thoracic Surgery for St. Luke’s Health Network, and the
director of Thoracic Surgical Oncology at Simon Kramer Institute
of Therapeutic Oncology.
He has authored several publications on thoracic surgery and
has lectured extensively on this topic.
