The Saint Barnabas Hospice
and Palliative Care Center at
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
The right care at the right time.
For more than 25 years, the caring, compassionate professionals
of the nationally-renowned Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative
Care Center have provided exceptional physical, emotional
and spiritual support to patients and families during life’s
final stages.

The Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center provides
inpatient hospice care on a well-appointed 9-bed unit on
the 12th floor of the Medical Center. The Unit, which
opened in February 2003, provides symptom management in an
acute care setting for terminally ill patients. Individuals
are cared for in a peaceful home-like environment by the
hospice interdisciplinary team and may be admitted to the
unit directly from their home or from the hospital. Each
patient's physician coordinates with the team regarding medical
management. Visiting hours are not restricted and families
may remain with the patient as desired. The unit features
a kitchen facility, a meditation room, and a spectacular
view of the New York City skyline. When appropriate,
staff members coordinate a safe transfer to home hospice
care.
