Goldstern; Lorraine Sciara, Executive Director and Vice President
of Hospice and Related Services, Saint Barnabas Hospice and
Palliative Care Center (SBHPCC); and Gregg Gottsegen at The
John T. Feeney Memorial GMS Golf Classic. The event, held
July 30 at the Plainfield Country Club in Edison, NJ, is
the organization's signature fundraiser. Mr. Goldstern and
Mr. Gottsegen, 2007 event Co-chairs, have been actively involved
in the event for many years.
Despite a weather forecast featuring the threat of thundershowers,
blue skies and sunshine prevailed as the event earned a stellar
net profit of over $150,000 - all of which will directly
benefit patients and families of the SBHPCC, an affiliate
of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
Continuing to honor the legacy of its longtime benefactor
John T. Feeney, his company, The GMS Group, LLC, was the
Event Sponsor. Other major sponsors of the event included
Jeffrey and Jessica Goldstern, Lowenstein Sandler, and Marquis
Jet; thirty additional sponsors lent their support at the
Silver, Par and Tee levels of sponsorship.
"Our sponsors and the participants are a special group of
people who sustain us through good and bad times," said Sciara. "To
see them having fun is wonderful."
The evening portion of the program included raffle drawings
and a silent auction, both of which built excitement for
the spirited live auction finale. The live auction included:
travel for 2 by private jet to the Master's tournament, accommodations
included, courtesy of Gold Sponsor Marquis Jet; a 2-night
stay at the Mandarin Oriental, New York, with dinners at
Veritas and Bar Americain; a Yankee Skybox for 8; and other
items.
"This is my fifth year participating in this event," added
Gottsegen. "It's wonderful to see where the money goes and
who benefits from it. It's always a great day."
Established in 1981, Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative
Care Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care
System, provides comprehensive physical, emotional and spiritual
care and support services for patients with advanced illness
and their families throughout ten counties in the State of
New Jersey. The program, which serves infants, children,
adults and the elderly, honors the unique choices and values
of patients and their families while offering full access
to the broad array of services provided by the Saint Barnabas
Health Care System.
