, September 21, 2007 -- Podiatrist Affan Akhtar,
D.P.M. — who specializes in comprehensive foot and ankle surgery
— has joined the medical staff of Kimball Medical Center and
podiatrist Richard Lesser, D.P.M., chairman of the hospital’s
podiatry department, and his Family Foot Health Center in Howell.
 Dr.
Akhtar completed the podiatric surgical residency program at Roger
Williams Center/Boston University School of Medicine in Providence,
R.I., where he served as chief resident. He earned a doctorate of
podiatric medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine
in New York City. During his training, he was a medical volunteer
for both the Boston and New York City marathons. He further specializes
in advanced sports medicine, including trauma, reconstructive foot
and ankle surgery and ankle arthroscopy.
A member of the American College of Foot and Ankle
Surgeons, American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and American
Podiatric Medical Association, Dr. Akhtar is publishing research
results in a number of professional journals.
