, August 10, 2006 -- Originally designated a Magnet Hospital
in 2002, Kimball Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas
Health Care System, has been redesignated a Magnet Hospital in 2006.
The unwavering dedication and clinical expertise of Kimball’s
nursing staff helped the hospital achieve nursing’s highest
honor. As of summer 2004, less than three percent of the nation's
hospitals had qualified for Magnet™ designation which is awarded
every four years.
The Magnet Recognition Program is a proven means for recognizing
excellence in the management, philosophy and practice of nursing
services; and adherence to national standards for improving the
quality of patient care services. The Magnet designation is a reflection
of Kimball’s dedication to recruit and retain highly qualified
and skilled nurses that help deliver the best clinical care and
patient outcomes.
Mary Pat Sullivan, vice president of patient care at Kimball Medical
Center said, “The nurses here have contributed to positive
care outcomes, lower mortality rates, increased levels of patient
satisfaction, and positive nurse-physician relationships.”
Joe Hicks, executive director at Kimball Medical Center added,
“The nurses earned this award through their collective dedication
to clinical excellence. On behalf of the hospital, we congratulate
them on this accomplishment and thank them for their continued service.”
Designation as a Magnet facility indicates the existence of a professional
environment that supports growth and development of the nursing
staff and excellence in nursing services. The Magnet Award encompasses
a wide variety of issues in the health care facility and delivery
of nursing services and is reviewed on a regular basis to ensure
compliance by facilities pursuing the Magnet designation.
