KIMBALL KIDS CELEBRATES 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Lakewood, NJ ---  As you walk through the doors at Kimball Kids, brightly colored drawings and paintings cover the walls, and sounds of music and laughter echo throughout the building.  Within one glance, you see and feel the warmth and caring being given to the children enrolled in the childcare center.  And here, there is a long history of providing a safe and nurturing environment to hundreds of kids.

On October 3rd, Kimball Kids celebrates 20 years of caring and providing Kimball Medical Center employees and community members with a daycare program they can trust.  Kimball Kids, located on Prospect Street directly across from Kimball Medical Center, offers half and full day care for children ages six weeks through four years.  Kimball made the decision to own and operate its own daycare program as a benefit to the hospital employees.  Kimball purchased the building to house Kimball Kids in 1986 and funds were raised by Kimball’s Auxiliaries to renovate the building.

“Our focus at Kimball Kids has always been the children,” explains Diane Peters, Director of Kimball Kids.  “We have created an environment here which provides a foundation to build each child’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills.   We do this though age-appropriate planned activities which enrich our children’s child care experience,” she explains.  “Our hands-on approach respects the developmental needs of the young child and allows children to be actively involved in the learning process where they can explore, experiment, evaluate and discuss their experience.”

Each classroom staff exceeds the licensing requirements set forth by The State of New Jersey, Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing.  Kimball Kids provides a well-rounded, age-appropriate curriculum in each classroom.  “We understand that children are part of a family and value and support that relationship,” says Peters.  “We strive in partnership with families to enrich every child’s life.”

Maria Colella, a lead teacher at Kimball Kids, has been employed at the day care facility since the doors opened in 1988.  She began as a part-time teaching assistant in the infant room.  She remains in the same room today.  “I love being with the babies—they are so much fun.  Seeing their wide-eyes and smiles everyday makes it difficult to feel like I am working,” she says.  “These kids are a part of my family.”
