MARCH 12, 2008 —Tai Chi, often called ‘meditation in motion,’ is an ancient form of martial arts that modern day researchers have found offers amazing health benefits. It can be particularly beneficial to people with arthritis because it promotes good posture, improves flexibility, mobility and strength, and has been known to offer many individuals relief from pain.
Combining slow, gentle movements with deep breathing and mind focus, Tai Chi is also an excellent way to reduce stress and enhance energy while improving your overall sense of well being!
Because of it’s overwhelming popularity within the community, The Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center, in cooperation with the Arthritis Foundation®, will now be offering ongoing weekly classes teaching Sun-Style Tai Chi. The program’s gentle back and forth motions are easy to learn and can be done while sitting or standing. While this program has been designed specifically to help individual’s suffering from arthritis, everyone who attends will benefit.
Classes will be held every Wednesday morning from 9 to 10 am beginning on April 2 at the Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Each session costs $2.00. This ongoing weekly Tai Chi program will be held in addition to the Center’s regularly scheduled Friday afternoon classes.
Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water. To register or to learn more, please call the Saint Barnabas Health Care Link at 1-888-SBHS-123.
