Lakewood, NJ - CMX, a national
engineering and consulting firm located in Manalapan, recently
made a donation to Kimball Medical Center that will surely
affect the lives of the hundreds of patients that visit Kimball’s
Operating Rooms each year.
With the help of this donation made to the Kimball Medical
Center Foundation by CMX, the hospital has been able to purchase
several hypothermia blankets.
CMX Engineering offers a broad range of consulting services
for public and private clients from 21 office locations throughout
New Jersey, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Florida,
Nevada and Mexico. CMX serves a variety of different
markets including transportation, land development, public
works, environmental, building services, telecommunications
and sports engineering. The CMX Community Foundation
was created to channel their charitable and philanthropic
activities back to their communities.
“We are thankful to the CMX Community Foundation for
giving Kimball Medical Center the funding necessary to purchase
these blankets,” said Teri Lacey, Major Gifts Officer
for the Kimball Medical Center Foundation. “Our
patients will benefit greatly from having these special hypothermia
blankets to help maintain their core body temperature during
and immediately following surgery,” she adds.
According to Geraldine Smith, RN, Administrative Director
of Peri-Operative Services at Kimball Medical Center, the
hypothermia blankets are used to aid in the prevention of
hypothermia in the Operating Room. “A small drop
in the patient’s core temperature triples the risk
of infection following colon surgery and can also increase
the length of time spent in the hospital following surgery,” she
explains.
The Kimball Medical Center Foundation was created to support
Kimball Medical Center and the programs and services it provides.
A variety of fundraising events held throughout the year,
as well as contributions from individuals, corporations,
and other donors help the Foundation fund facility improvements,
and also help fund new programs and services and purchase
state-of-the-art equipment. The Foundation enjoys the support
of thousands of friends, especially the members of the Kimball
Medical Center Auxiliary Association, whom not only raise
funds for the hospital, but also serve as “ambassadors” in
the community.
