KIMBALL HIGHLIGHTS BENEFITS OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
April is National Occupational Therapy Month

Lakewood, NJ ---- Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping individuals achieve their highest level of functioning and regain independence after suffering from a wide variety of post-traumatic injuries, sports injuries, work-related injuries, arthritis and stroke.

“Occupational therapists use a variety of treatment methods to help patients maximize their potential in all areas of everyday life,” explains David Terlizzi, Director of the Institute for Rehabilitation Services at Kimball Medical Center.

“Those who can really benefit from OT are those with tennis or golfers elbow; carpal tunnel syndrome; trigger finger; tendon tears; sports strains or sprains; and post-fractures. We provide a large variety of services to individuals of all ages and abilities. The key is to help our patients regain their ability to function and get back to normal life,” he adds.

OT services are offered on an outpatient basis at the Institute for Rehabilitative and Occupational Health Services, conveniently located on the hospital’s campus at 500 River Avenue in Lakewood.

“The Institute provides area residents with convenient access to some of the region's most specialized occupational therapists who are all certified and have extensive training in splinting, range-of-motion, stretching and strengthening,” says Terlizzi. “Our therapists are also highly skilled in a variety of diagnostic modalities including ultrasound, iontophoresis, and hot and cold packs,” he added.

Restoring each patient’s ability to achieve their individual daily life routines is the sole focus of each of the team members, according to Terlizzi. “Whether the goal of OT is to walk unassisted, return to work, or get back to the golf course, each program is designed with the individual in mind,” he adds.

By offering a continuum of care, customized therapy, and access to the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, the occupational therapists are ready to help every patient return to their optimal level of function and good health. “We offer exceptional inpatient and outpatient OT services and programs,” says Terlizzi. “Our staff is highly skilled and dedicated to instilling hope, a sense of achievement and ensuring success,” he adds.
