Kimball Medical Center Volunteer of the Year Recipient

Lakewood, NJ --- Volunteers provide incredible support to many organizations.  At Kimball Medical Center, the volunteers are extremely dedicated and their responsibilities vary tremendously.

According to Donna Salin, director of the Volunteer Resource Center at Kimball, there are 565 active volunteers who have provided 91,000 hours of service during 2008.  “Our volunteers fulfill a broad range of services including patient contact, clerical services, cashiering, managing and staffing our three Thrift shops, transporting patients, reception, as well as many other responsibilities,” she explains.  “We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed group of volunteers here at Kimball,” says Salin.

Each year, Kimball’s Volunteer Resource Center honors one of its volunteers as the Volunteer of the Year.  This year’s recipient Terry Onorati of Manchester, was presented with a commemorative engraved clock during a recent volunteer luncheon.  This award is bestowed upon the volunteer that worked the greatest number of hours during the year and recognizes their many efforts.

“Terry Onorati started volunteering at Kimball Medical Center on August 23, 1991, and was placed on our nursing unit 4H,” explains Salin.  “There she attends to patients’ non-clinical needs and assists staff with various errands, and tasks. She also works at the Treasure Chest Thrift Shop in Lakehurst as well as spending time at home knitting baby hats and lap blankets for our patients,” said Salin.

Terry has provided to Kimball Medical Center a total of 10,653 hours since she started in 1991 and was awarded a 10,500 hour bar to hang from her volunteer pin at the Recognition Luncheon in addition to her honor as Volunteer of the Year.

“Volunteers, like Terry, are an invaluable asset, and are critical to the overall success of Kimball Medical Center,” says Salin.
