The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive
Breast Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
by the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Commission on
Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging. This prestigious
designation is only awarded to centers that have achieved accreditation
in all of ACR’s voluntary breastimaging accreditation programs
(mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided
breast biopsies) as well as FDA approval by the state accrediting
body in mammography. This dual accreditation has been earned by
only a handful of breast imaging centers across the United States.
Accreditation is awarded based on the high practice standards in
image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality
control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
A year after its debut,
the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center passed its
first Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection for being in
total compliance with stringent requirements under the federal
Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). For every subsequent
year, the Center passed the annual MQSA inspection with “no” deficiences—a
success acheived by less than 20 percent of the more than 2,000
facilities in the country inspected by the FDA.
The Breast Center is also accredited
by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for mammography services,
ultrasound and ultrasound guided biopsy, and stereotactic biopsy.
To date, the Breast Center has completed all inspections and accreditation
surveys with a perfect record of excellence.
