From the moment you walk through the doors of the breast center,
your care is in the hands of the most qualified breast care professionals:
- Radiologists
- Surgeons
- Medical oncologists
- Radiotherapists
- Pathologists
- Plastic Surgeons
- Psychosocial counselors
- Nurses
- Dietitians
A team composed of individuals from each of these fields
meets weekly to confidentially review cases of women diagnosed with
breast cancer. An individual treatment plan is developed, communicated
to the patient, and implemented in a timely manner.
Like many other health care professionals, this experienced team
has observed through many cases that early detection is the best
protection. The earlier a cancerous lump is discovered, the greater
the chance of successful treatment, in many cases without having
the breast removed.
An important element in this coordinated approach to breast health
care is psychosocial support. Our specialists provide counseling
and support, as well as refer women to community resources which
can help them and their families.
The breast center provides support groups for women diagnosed
with breast cancer, giving them a chance to meet other women who
are facing similar challenges. The center also participates in several
other programs in conjunction with the American Cancer Society,
including Look Good, Feel Better, Relay for Life and the Breast
Center Detection Awareness Project.
