An increasing number of radiologists use computer-aided detection
(CAD) as a “second pair of eyes” when reading a mammogram.
CAD uses computerized algorithms for identifying suspicious regions
of interest. The intent of CAD is to aid the radiologist in his
or her interpretation of mammograms.
The SecondLook® iCAD system at the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive
Breast Center provides a computerized second review of both screening
and diagnostic mammograms. This “closer” look allows
the center’s dedicated breast imagers to recognize subtle changes
in breast tissue that could either indicate the presence of cancer
or necessitate a more thorough examination.
