We are known for innovative treatments, advanced technologies, life-saving care, and unsurpassed dedication to the children and families we serve.
That dedication involves more than superior medical treatment and expert physicians. In 1968, Monmouth Medical Center became the first community hospital in the nation to establish a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for the most fragile, premature infants. It was the beginning of a commitment to children that has continued ever since. Today, The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center is the region’s premiere children’s hospital, where 140 specialists in 30 pediatric subspecialties bring unparalleled expertise to the region’s youngest patients and their families.
As an academic medical center, Monmouth Medical Center’s legacy of excellence in pediatric care includes launching the region’s first pediatric emergency department; bringing Ocean County its first-ever Specialty Center for Women and Children; and becoming the most comprehensive children’s hospital licensed and designated to serve Ocean and Monmouth Counties. Along with countless advances in every specialty, The Children’s Hospital delivers the finest care, led by a team of physicians with the region’s most advanced training and expertise in pediatric care.
To meet the unique needs of infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center utilizes the TouchPoints approach to care, created by T. Berry Brazelton, M.D., a world-renowned expert in early childhood development.
TouchPoints develops and emphasizes a partnership between physicians and parents to ensure delivery of outstanding pediatric care. Helping parents understand and interpret the non-verbal and verbal ways in which ways young children communicate is one important aspect of the approach. With parents as our partners, we can best care for the child’s emotional, developmental and physical needs during illness as well as good health. As a regional training center for the Touchpoints program, The Children’s Hospital is the first hospital in the nation, and the only one in New Jersey, to incorporate TouchPoints as part of its pediatric residency program. We’re teaching the next generation of pediatricians important skills to help parents build healthy families and raise happy, healthy children.
