Adolescent Medicine at The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center

Monmouth Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics offers many health services for the adolescent patient, ages 11 through 18. Patients who need admission to the hospital for medical or surgical problems are cared for on the pediatric inpatient unit and in the pediatric intensive care unit. Those in need of inpatient psychiatric services are cared for in the pediatric and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit.

Children may receive general medical care and gynecological care in the Monmouth Family Health Center located in Long Branch. This Center provides comprehensive health care to families from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

Our Services
Our Department of Pediatrics has many outpatient programs for the care of children with a wide variety of health problems. In our ambulatory clinics, children are treated for simple health problems such as cold and flu. Patients who have more complicated health concerns may be referred within our network of specialists in areas such as endocrinology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, hematology and infectious disease. Our pediatric emergency room treats adolescents with acute medical and surgical problems.


Brian Truxal, MD, FAAP
Director, Adolescent Medical Clinic

A board certified pediatrician, Dr. Truxal completed his undergraduate education at Yale University where he graduated with honors and received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his residency at New York University and Bellevue Hospitals and his fellowship in adolescent medicine at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center. Dr. Truxal is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He has co-authored numerous articles on subjects such as adolescent sports medicine and carbon monoxide poisoning.
