The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center

Community Health Education

The Community Health Education Department at Monmouth Medical Center provides comprehensive educational, screening and support programs as well as resource and referral services to the community. The department was created to respond to the growing physical, psychological, social and emotional needs of families in our community. We strive to create lifetime relationships with families in the community and to take an active role in creating a healthier community.

Services provided include childbirth classes, parenting programs, adoptive parenting classes, health education lectures, speaker’s bureau, health fairs, health screenings, support groups, school career days and programs specifically designed for school-aged children. Programs offered are created on an ongoing basis to meet the needs of the community and address family-related issues from birth through adulthood.

Our children’s programs include:

  • Safe Sitter baby sitting program
  • I’m the Big Brother/Big Sister sibling preparation for school-age children
  • Make Room For Baby sibling preparation for pre-school-age children
  • Germbusters Handwashing Clinic
  • Teddy Bear Clinic
  • Kids Need Support, Too Support Group for children who have a family member with a serious illness
  • Children/Adolescents Experiencing Loss Support Group

In 2004 we were designated the Monmouth County Chapter of SAFE KIDS New Jersey. The SAFE KIDS National Campaign began 15 years ago by Martin Eichelberger, MD, and the founding sponsor Johnson & Johnson who made a commitment to work together to prevent unintentional injuries among children ages 14 and under. As a SAFE KIDS Chapter we sponsor bike rodeos, child seat safety inspections, safety fairs and community events to raise awareness about injury prevention.
