Our pediatric nurses
enjoy working with children – and
it shows. In addition to creating a warm, supportive, healing
environment for children and families, they provide the highest
level of care in every specialty area. With extraordinary clinical
expertise, advanced training and credentials, our nurses are among
the region’s best.

All Children’s Hospital nurses are registered
certified pediatric nurses (CPN), and are certified in both Basic
Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). In
pediatric specialties, our highly qualified nursing staff maintains
advanced training and certifications required for specialty practice.

Maureen Swick, Ph.D., R.N., rejoined Monmouth Medical Center in
1998 as Director of Nursing Standards and Patient Care Quality—to
be named Vice President of Patient Care Services the following
year.
Her career at Monmouth began in 1984 as a graduate
nurse in critical care. She then became coordinator of its Intensive
Care Unit before being named Director of Patient Services at Meridian
Health System, Neptune, NJ—a post she held until returning
to Monmouth.
Dr. Swick earned a bachelor of science degree
in nursing from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, NJ, a master
of science degree as a clinical nurse specialist from Columbia
University, New York and a doctorate degree in Health Care Administration
from Kennedy Western University. She recently was appointed a clinical
professor of nursing at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ
and she recently was elected president of The New Jersey Chapter
of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (ONE NJ).
In addition
to ONE NJ, her professional affiliations include the American Organization
of Nurse Executives, New Jersey State Nurses Association and the
Lambda Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing honor
society.

Valerie Fund Children’s Center
A medical professional with more than 30 years pediatric experience,
Susan received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Widener University
in Chester, Pennsylvania and her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification
from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She earned
her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Associate Degree in Nursing
from Gwynedd Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania. Susan
holds a variety of certifications that contribute to her strengths
in patient care and nursing education, including Pediatric Nurse
Practitioner, Pediatric Oncology Nurse, Chemotherapy (preparation
and administration). She is also credentialed by the Association
of Pediatric Oncology Nurses (APON) to administer chemotherapy.
Susan sits on several hospital committees, including
the Cancer Committee, Nursing Executive Committee and Chemotherapy
Committee. She also participates in national medical committees,
including Nursing Representative for the Children’s Oncology
Group’s Pharmacy Committee, serving on the Nursing Program
Committee for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and the
Pediatric Advisory Board: End of Life Nursing Education. Susan
has co-authored several articles that have appeared in prestigious
peer-reviewed journals. She has also contributed chapters to medical
publications and developed educational materials for nurses.
Clinical Director - Regional Newborn Center
Cristen has been a member of the Monmouth Medical
Center nursing staff for nearly 10 years, starting as a member
of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nursing team. She is
a Registered Nurse, Certified Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
instructor, certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American
Heart Association and has her National Certification (RNC) in Neonatal
Nursing. Cristen received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing
degree from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and is
pursuing her BSN/MSN at Thomas Edison State College.
Clinical Director Pediatrics, Pediatric Critical Care
Debra was instrumental in planning and designing the Children's Hospital
at Monmouth Medical Center. She has more than 20 years of experience in
patient care and is affiliated with the National Association of Female
Executives, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Organization
of Nurse Executives and American Heart Association: PALS and BCLS.
Debra received her Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees
from Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey.
Clinical Director, Mother/Baby Unit
A member of the Monmouth Medical Center nursing
staff for the past 20 years, Ana is a key member of the Regional
Newborn Center nursing staff and provides post-partum care and
lactation support to mothers as well as newborn care to infants
from birth to discharge. Ana is CRP certified and has earned her
National Certification on Women's Health Care and Newborn Resuscitation
Certification (NRC).
Administrative Director of Women's and Children's Services
With more than 30 years of experience, Kathy spent 6 years as the
Clinical Director of Patient Care Services for Monmouth Medical
Center's
Mother/Baby Unit before being promoted to the position of Administrative
Director of Women's and Children's Services. Kathy earned her Bachelor
in Health Administration from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn,
New York and Associates degree in Applied Science in Nursing from
The Long Island College Hospital and Associates degree in Applied
Science from Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.
She is a member of several professional organizations, such as
the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses
(AWHONN), Regional Perinatal Consortium of Monmouth and Ocean Counties
(member of the Perinatal Education Subcommittee). Kathy is also
a certified Childbirth Educator, trained in Touchpoints and is
a trained Lactation Resource.
