Long Branch, N.J.--Jonathan Teitelbaum, M.D., Section Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, has been appointed to The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and will be a Sub-board member for Gastroenterology. The ABP strives to improve training, establishes the requirements for certification, and sets the standards for its examinations. Dr. Teitelbaum’s term on the board lasts for six years beginning January 2009.

Founded in 1933, the ABP is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). It is an independent, nonprofit organization whose certificate is recognized throughout the world as a credential signifying a high level of physician competence The ABP Board of Directors consists of distinguished pediatricians in education, research, and clinical practice.
At the Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center Dr. Jonathan Teitelbaum, who is board certified both in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, is the Section Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. He cares for a group of over 100 children with Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and has started the first support group in New Jersey for children with IBD and their parents. He is active in research and his work has been published in medical journals and presented at national conferences. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
He completed his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and his residency in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He then went on to complete his fellowship at Harvard University’s combined program in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at The Children’s Hospital, Boston and Massachusetts General Hospital. Currently he is Assistant Professor at Drexel University School of Medicine and the Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology program at the Children’s Hospital of Monmouth Medical Center where he has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He has authored over 50 peer reviewed research articles, abstracts, topic reviews, and book chapters on various topics.
