—Each day, dozens of visitors
to The Eisenberg Family Center at Monmouth Medical Center can
be found at the open-view newborn nursery. For many, it’s
their first look through the glass-enclosed gallery at the
new arrivals brought into this world by family and friends.
Now that popular destination bears the name of a Middletown
family dedicated to the health and well-being of children. Pat
and Jennifer Scire, who are the parents of three young children
themselves, have made a generous gift to name the Scire Family
Baby Nursery.
“For decades, Monmouth Medical Center has made the childbirth
experience a happy and healthy one for countless families,” says
Maureen Swick, R.N., Ph.D., CNAA, vice president of patient care
services. “We extend our appreciation to the Scire family
for their generosity and commitment to ensuring our youngest
patients receive the highest quality care.”
With more than 3,600 births annually, Monmouth Medical Center
has the highest number of deliveries in Monmouth and Ocean counties
and the fourth highest in the state. Most of these infants spend
their first hours in the Scire Family Baby Nursery — the
centerpiece of The Eisenberg Family Center’s postpartum
unit, which offers spectacular ocean views from many of its 32
homelike rooms for mothers recovering from childbirth.
The Eisenberg Family Center, which was generously supported
through an extraordinary naming donation made in 1998 by Lewis
and Judith Eisenberg of Rumson, also includes a state-of-the-art
labor, delivery and recovery pavilion, where a comfortable, homelike
environment is offered for both low-risk and complicated deliveries
requiring advanced technology.
While the Scire Family Baby Nursery has been specially designed
to give visitors the opportunity to get their first glimpse of
the newborns from the expansive viewing gallery, it also is equipped
with the latest technology so that highly trained postpartum
nurses and other professionals can provide ’round the clock
care.
“Visitors and families like the open-view nursery because
it allows them to be part of the baby’s care,” says
Ann Winn, administrative director of women’s and children’s
services. “New mothers are given the choice of having their
babies remain at their bedside or brought to the nursery at any
time — day or night.”
The Scires have been longtime supporters of Monmouth Medical
Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
Pat Scire has served on the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation’s
Board of Trustees since 2002, and the couple has been involved
in such annual fund-raisers as the Two Rivers Antiques Show and
Garden Tour, which benefits the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive
Breast Center of the Leon Hess Cancer Center.
