Monmouth Medical Center Celebrates Success of
Capital Campaign with Special “Thank You” to Donors

$15 million raised for region’s premier teaching institution

LONG BRANCH, NJ, MAY 17, 2006 - The Monmouth Medical Center Foundation recently celebrated the success of its five-year capital campaign, Redefining Healthcare, by welcoming campaign donors to a special thank you reception.

The capital campaign, launched in 2000 and completed in 2005, raised $15 million for Monmouth Medical Center.

Lucia Baratta, vice president of the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation, said, “We are sincerely and deeply gratified by the charitable response from our community to this capital campaign. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet with individual donors, business leaders and other groups who so generously contributed to our hospital throughout the campaign. It is truly remarkable to see the genuine commitment and dedication for Monmouth Medical Center in the Jersey Shore region.”

Baratta added that the success of this campaign and the funds raised will be used to further enhance Monmouth Medical Center’s programs and services, and solidify the hospital as the region’s premier health care provider.

Monmouth Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, has grown into one of New Jersey’s largest academic medical centers. In addition to being a teaching affiliate of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Monmouth has more than 900 physicians trained in primary medicine as well as 60 recognized medical and surgical subspecialties on its medical/dental staff and 100 physicians in training in eight accredited residency programs.

Monmouth was recently designated as a Children’s Hospital and was one of the first hospitals in the state to establish a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Today, the 21-bassinet NICU has one of the highest infant survival rates in New Jersey.

The Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth was the first breast center in the state to offer digital mammography and today provides the widest range of breast health services in the region. The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery offers cutting-edge surgical treatment options for morbid obesity, severe heartburn, colon and kidney disease and a host of other disorders.

The Joel Opatut Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Monmouth Medical Center was the first facility in Monmouth County to earn national certification in both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

All of these programs and services – and more – will benefit from the capital campaign, Baratta said.

The May 2 thank you reception was attended by dozens of donors to the campaign who enjoyed an evening of hors d’oeuvres and camaraderie with fellow donors, hospital staff, administration and physicians.

Dignitaries at the event included Frank J. Vozos, MD, executive director of Monmouth Medical Center; Ronald J. Del Mauro, president and CEO of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System; Alan Davis, Esq., chairman of the Monmouth Medical Center Board of Trustees; Tammy Snyder Murphy, chair of the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees and Judi Dawkins, past chair of the Foundation Board.
