, - Nursing
is one of the more challenging and rewarding careers a person
can choose. From pediatrics to intensive care to nurse practitioners;
nurses have the opportunity to explore and practice in virtually
every field of medicine. Every day nurses save and improve
lives, teach people how to achieve better health, and advocate
for patients’ quality of care and quality of life.
Monmouth Medical Center has announced the following winners
of its annual nursing awards program held in honor of national
nurses week. Each year, the hospital selects its winners from
a pool of nominees that are chosen by their peers.
The Monmouth Medical Center nurses were recognized for the difference
they make in patients’ lives – as well as for supporting
their coworkers so that they can perform to the best of their
abilities. Their passion, commitment and dedication to the field
of nursing helps the hospital provide the highest level of clinical
care.
Susan Dulczak, RN, Sea Bright

of nursing practice.
Lori Frederick, RN, Hazlet; Carol
Allen, RN, Toms River; Jamel Descola, RN, Neptune
This award for excellence in caring was made possible thanks
to a generous donation from an anonymous donor. This award is
generally presented to two nurses whose excellence at the bedside
is invaluable to the nursing staff at Monmouth Medical Center.
This year, there was a tie so the hospital decided to award three
nurses for their outstanding skills in clinical care.
Diane Stanaway, RN, Jackson
This award is sponsored by the EMA and the emergency physicians
at Monmouth Medical Center for a registered nurse in the hospital
who has collaboratively aided the emergency department in doing
what is best for the patients. It has always been given to a
nurse not in the emergency department, but who helps aid in relations
and a collaborative approach to medicine.
Louise O’Malley, RN, Little
Silver
Monsignor Paul F. Bradley was a familiar face at Monmouth Medical
Center, visiting patients since 1969. A former member of Monmouth
Medical Center’s board of trustees, Monsignor Bradley became
famous at Iwo Jima in World War II when, during heavy combat,
he celebrated mass, comforted the living, buried the dead and
kept morale up. He won a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his
efforts. This award was established to honor his devotion and
commitment to visiting and caring for the sick. It is presented
annually to a nurse that best embodies these qualities.
1st – Debra Weyhknecht,
