Monmouth Medical Named to Top 100 in Performance Study.

LONG BRANCH, NJ, June 1, 2006 - Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch has been chosen one of America's top 100 hospitals by a health-care information company.

It is the only hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties to earn Solucient's recognition as a leader in performance improvement during a five-year review, company spokeswoman Jean Chenoweth said in a news release.

"Monmouth Medical Center is among those organizations that have set national benchmarks for consistent improvement in clinical outcomes, patient safety, hospital efficiency, financial stability and growth," Chenoweth said.

Dr. Frank J. Vozos, who has been executive director of Monmouth Medical Center since 1998, said he is proud of the honor.

"This award is an affirmation of our team effort to create a health-care environment for the community that provides the best in quality patient care, patient safety and hospital efficacy, on a national level," Vozos said.

Solucient of Evanston, Ill., analyzed acute-care hospitals from 1999 through 2004 using performance data, including Medicare MedPAR data, Medicare cost reports, and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services outpatient data. The study looked at all U.S. hospitals licensed to treat Medicare patients.

Nine measurements examined at each hospital were: risk-adjusted mortality and complications, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, growth in patient volume, tangible assets and risk-adjusted patient safety index.
