LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Two Rivers Garden Tour, a
two-day event featuring a tour of six beautiful and rarely viewed
gardens in Monmouth County’s “Two Rivers” area,
will mark its 15th anniversary in May.
In addition to the garden tour on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday,
May 31, the event will feature a 15th Anniversary Celebration
cocktail party and auction on Friday, May 29, that will honor
Rumson residents Michael and Diane Gooch, whose West River Road
estate will be featured on the 2009 tour.
Michael Gooch is chairman of the board and chief executive officer
of GFI Group Inc., a financial brokerage business he founded
in 1987 and that over the last 20 years has grown to employ more
than 1,600 people. In 2004, Michael and Diane – an amateur
photographer – bought The Two River Times, a Red
Bank-based weekly newspaper. As the newspaper’s publisher,
Diane also has successfully launched a semi-annual lifestyle
magazine, “The Book,” and provides the photography
for the covers as well as some content.
“Diane and Michael actively support a host of charitable
organizations, including Monmouth Medical Center Foundation,
in the Two River community as well as in New York,” say
event chairs Ana Blank and Jackie Minniear, who note that the
Gooches have been the ad journal underwriters for the garden
tour for three years. “We are so grateful for their ongoing
support.”
In addition to the Gooches’ property, featured on the
2009 tour will be the gardens of Pat and Paul Pritchard, and
B.J. and Ernest Thomspon, both on Fair Haven Road, Fair Haven;
Sue Rastelli and Bill Grabowski, Riverlawn Drive in Fair Haven;
Stevie and Todd Thomspon, Doughty Lane in Fair Haven; and Kim
and Thomas Widener, Buena Vista Road, Rumson.
The Two Rivers Garden Tour is the major fund-raiser for the
Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth,
raising more than $2 million since its inception to fund cutting-edge
technology and the most advanced breast care available. The Wilentz
center offers the highest standard of well and breast cancer
care to all women regardless of their ability to pay, and consistently
remains a leader in research, technology and treatment. It offers
all digital screening and diagnostic mammography and was designated
as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
It is the region’s only breast center to compile a completely
unblemished record for total compliance with the federal Mammography
Qualities Standards Act since its opening in 1994. Additionally,
the Wilentz center is one of only two breast centers in New Jersey
and one of only 33 in North America to be asked to participate
in the American College of Radiology Imaging Network’s
digital mammography clinical trail (DMIST).
Hours for the garden tour are Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m., and Sunday, May 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tickets
cost $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event.
