LONG BRANCH, NJ, April 29, 2009 – The Women’s Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center will present its semiannual “Spa for the Spirit” — held each fall and spring to give about 30 cancer patients a day of relaxation, rejuvenation and beauty — on Tuesday, May 5, at Aqua Medica Spa in Long Branch.
“The women spend the day getting facials, massages and have lunch — all in the name of health and well-being,” says Judi Morris, Spa for the Spirit coordinator for the Women’s Council for the Leon Hess Cancer Center. “The Women’s Council created Spa for the Spirit to help women who are going through chemotherapy or radiation therapy to feel beautiful and relaxed, and ultimately help them to recover more quickly.”
Participants also are treated to facials, manicures and pedicures, as well as Reiki and reflexology sessions and counseling with a nutritionist. All spa treatments are approved by Monmouth Medical Center’s Cancer Services’ clinical staff.
Funding for Spa for the Spirit comes from the annual Power of Pink luncheons hosted by the Women’s Council each summer. The 2009 Power of Pink annual luncheon — which will be held on Thursday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Chapel and Grounds at Sandy Hook — will feature an address by Andrea Jung, chairman and chief executive officer of Avon Products. Honoree for the 2009 luncheon is Andrew Elkwood, M.D., section chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Monmouth Medical Center.
In addition to Spa for the Spirit, proceeds of the 2009 membership luncheon will benefit the Tomo Therapy patient waiting area at the Leon Hess Cancer Center. To learn more, visit www.monmouthfoundation.org, or call 732-923-6886.
