— The Kogan Celiac Center of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System will be opening its first satellite location at Monmouth Medical Center in May.
The Kogan Celiac Center at Monmouth Medical Center will offer comprehensive testing and treatment for adults and children with celiac disease, a genetic autoimmune disorder characterized by a reaction to the ingestion of gluten — a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. This reaction causes damage to the structures in the small intestine that are involved in nutrient absorption, and many conditions of malnutrition can occur.
For more information on the services offered by The Kogan Celiac Center at Monmouth Medical Center, call 973-322-7272.
On Tuesday, May 19, the center will present a Gluten Free Food Fair from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by an hour-long program on gluten-free baking on the ground floor lobby of Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. The gluten-free baking program, presented from 7 to 8 p.m., will be presented by Annalise Roberts, a celiac expert and frequent lecturer who has authored two cookbooks revered in the celiac community.
Registration for these events is required by calling 1-888-SBHS-123.
