On Wednesday, October 28, Monmouth Medical Center’s Regional
Cleft Palate Center and Kean University’s Department of
Communication Disorders and Deafness will present a symposium
on Speech and Educational Strategies for Children with Cleft
Palate.
The program runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. in the hospital’s
Borden Auditorium, 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch.
Cleft palate is a congenital disorder that may occur in isolation
or as part of a broader syndrome. The presence of cleft palate
may effect many aspects of a child’s development including
feeding, hearing, speech, language and learning.
Karen Goldking-Kushner, Ph.D, an internationally known speech
language pathologist who works with cranio-facila disorders,
is the keynote speaker. Other panelists include a plastic surgeon,
orthodontist, audiologist and social worker.
Parents, educational professionals, pediatricians, dentists,
nurses, speech therapists, and other healthcare members are encouraged
to attend.
Registration is required by calling the Regional Cleft Palate
Center at Monmouth Medical Center at (732) 923-7653.
