Dr. Benitez, fellowship-trained in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, along with Dr. Kopelan, board-certified in General Surgery with a special interest in Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery, head up the Center for Advanced Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Newark Beth Israel. Weight-loss surgery is giving an increasing number of persons with severe obesity a new start in life. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center performs the full range of bariatric surgical procedures including roux-en-y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (lap banding). Psychological aspects of the procedures, as well as their impact on diet and nutrition, are also addressed at our Center.
