Hysterectomy – the surgical removal of the uterus – may
offer a life-saving treatment in serious cases such as cancer
or uncontrolled bleeding. The enhanced dexterity afforded
by the da Vinci® S Surgical System enables surgeons
to perform even the most complex hysterectomies – including
those required to treat endometrial cancer or endometriosis
and those who have had previous pelvic surgery – with
a minimally invasive approach. The robot enhances the surgeon’s
view of the operative field -- especially critical when working
near the ureter and bladder. The da Vinci® hysterectomy
is performed through several fingertip-sized incisions instead
of the 6- to12-inch incision used in traditional surgery.
