Chairman of Surgery
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Bordan has extensive
leadership and teaching experience. He joined Newark Beth
Israel from ProHealth Care Associates, a private general
surgery practice in Lake Success, N.Y. Previously, Dr. Bordan
served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Director
of the Surgical Residency Program at Lincoln Medical and
Mental Health Center in the Bronx, where he also was President
of Downtown Bronx Medical Associates, a 300-member physician
group, and Associate Dean at Weill-Cornell College of Medicine.
Prior to that, Dr. Bordan was Senior Associate Chairman of
Surgery and Director of the Surgical Residency Program at
North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y.
Dr.
Bordan has served as an Associate Professor of Clinical
Surgery at Cornell University Medical College and also
held teaching appointments at New York University School
of Medicine, New York Medical College, and Yale University
School of Medicine. He earned his bachelor's degree in
biochemistry from New York University and his medical degree
from the State University of New York in Buffalo. He completed
his internship and residency in surgery at North Shore
University Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident,
and completed a fellowship in the Department of Surgery
at Cornell University Medical College. He was a Major in
the U.S. Air Force in Dover, Del., where he served as Chief
of the Department of Surgery.
Dr.
Bordan has been a member of many surgical societies including
the American College of Surgeons, State of Connecticut
- Young Surgeon Delegate, the New York Surgical Society,
the Association of Academic Surgery, Association of Program
Directors in Surgery, and the Society of Critical Care
Medicine.
