Our
world-class cardiac team is led by Craig R. Saunders, M.D.,
a distinguished surgeon and former Head of Affiliate Programs
for the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Dr.
Saunders has pioneered innovative surgical techniques and
excels in personally delivering these advance treatments
to his heart patients. As Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery,
Dr. Saunders and a renowned team of cardiac specialists
throughout the Saint Barnabas Health Care System are setting
the standard for excellence in cardiac care in New Jersey.
Craig
R. Saunders, M.D., Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery for
the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, completed postgraduate
training in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the
Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio. He served
as Staff Surgeon and Head of Affiliate Programs for the
Cleveland Clinic's Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery
Department. Dr. Saunders is currently the Chairman of Cardiothoracic
Surgery for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System.
He
maintains a special interest in minimally invasive surgery
for both coronary bypass and valve procedures; total arterial
revascularization; beating heart surgery without cardiopulmonary
bypass; redo coronary and valve surgery; valve repair and
replacement including homograft valve replacement; coronary
artery reconstruction with endarterectomy; and surgery
of the great vessels including aortic dissection and aneurysm
repair. Dr. Saunders serves as Co-Investigator on a number
of ongoing research protocols, has been published, and
is an accomplished professional speaker. He holds numerous
academic and professional appointments, serves on the editorial
and advisory board of a national medical journal, and has
been featured in a number of prime-time television documentaries
in California and Ohio.
